MARCH 9th 2019 | Thank you to the Cleveland Brothers for the generous donation to our lab!
Thanks to the Cleveland Brothers for donating $6,000 to the LiveLikeLou Center for ALS Research/Donnelly Lab through the Rebound Strong Program! The check was presented on March 9th 2019 at the University of Pittsburgh vs. University of Notre Dame basketball game (Pitt won!). We kept the check and is hanging in the lab.

NOVEMBER 2019 | JAKE MANN WINS BEST GRADUATE STUDENT PAPER OF THE YEAR
Jake Mann was awarded the Steven L. Phillips Scientific Achievement Award for the best graduate student scientific paper from the University of Pittsburgh Biomedical Graduate Student Association for his paper "RNA antagonizes neurotoxic phase transitions of TDP-43". This was awarded following a presentation of his findings at the annual graduate student symposium. Congrats Jake - well deserved!
NOVEMBER 2019 | LivLikeLou Center for ALS Research High School Awareness Course
Very excited to have participated in this inaugural course at Great Valley High School providing a scientific background on the pathobiology of neurodegenerative diseases with a focus on ALS. Students visiting Pittsburgh twice and even performed some experiments in the lab including, loading DNA gels and taking images of iPSC motor neurons on the confocal microscope. See below for details:

OCTOBER 2019 | Donnelly Lab attends annual Society for Neuroscience Conference (SfN)
The Donnelly lab attended the 49th annual Society for Neuroscience Conference in Chicago October 19th - 23rd. Dr. Amanda Gleixner and "Almost Dr." Jacob Mann presented their work to some of the 27k+ visitors in attendance. This includes our unpublished data studying the interplay between nucleoporins and TDP-43 proteinopathy as well as employing bait oligonucleotides to disaggregate preformed, ontogenetically induced FUS and TDP-43 inclusions (as well as purified FUS and TDP-43). We also had the great pleasure of visiting with long standing colleagues and establishing new collaborations. Jake, a Chicago native, also showed us and the Sattler lab around the city after our annual lab dinner.
MARCH 2019 | Donnelly Lab attends annual Packard Center ALS Research Symposium
Members of the Donnelly lab (Amanda, Jake, and Chris) attended the 2019 Robert Packard Center ALS Symposium at Johns Hopkins March 4-6, 2019 at the Four Seasons in Baltimore, MD. Events included two and a half days of scientific presentations on ALS/FTD Research and an awards reception for ALS patients and advocates. The meeting ended with competitive bowling for all participants (the Pitt and Thomas Jefferson teams made headlines). The Donnelly and Shorter labs presented their recent work published in Neuron. We also met the Phi Delta Theta brothers at Washington College in MD who raised 10K for ALS Research and donate to LiveLikeLou. Since we are the first Lab/Center funded by the LiveLikeLou Foundation, they were eager to discuss our work. \

FEBRUARY 2019 | Jake's paper is accepted at Neuron!
The labs first manuscript titled, "RNA binding antagonizes neurotoxic phase transitions of TDP-43" is accepted in Neuron (January 22nd, 2019) and is in press! Congratulations to Jacob Mann (lead author), the co-authors from the lab (Amanda Gleixner, Jocelyn Mauna, Katie Copley, Noah Pyles), and from our collaborators.
